BORNHOLM – Danish holiday destination

BORNHOLM – Danish holiday destination

Hey guys! Life has been tough last couple of months, but I finally feel settled here in the north. So expect me to post more regularly now!

Two weeks ago I visited Danish island, Bornholm, with my boyfriend’s family. What a lovely place it is! We went camping, as apparently that’s the thing Danes do, and it was a great experience! Apart from the rain and our worries of waking up in the water, haha. The weather in particular could have been better, as it was rainy and rather cold, not the best summer vacation weather… But we still had a great time!

Bornholm Rocks

Ahojte!

Bornholm, sea

From Copenhagen, we took the bus to Swedish Ystad and then the ferry to Bornholm. The journey was around 3 hours in total, so not too bad! This is the cheapest option of getting there, but you can also fly and get there in almost no time 🙂 Our camp was great, we had sea view right from our tent! Being from a country that doesn’t have any sea, I appreciate every opportunity of seeing it!

Bornholm, Hammershus

The first day we started by visiting Hammershus, which is the largest castle ruins in Northern Europe. It is also the most popular attraction on Bornholm and it definitely was worth to see! It definitely offers beautiful views of the beautiful blue sea.

Bornholm, view

Bornholm, Hammershus

Bornholm beach

Later that day we travelled through the whole island, to visit one of the most beautiful beaches. The sand there was really really soft, not like in Copenhagen, but it was also really really cold! While the others gathered up the strength and went to the water, I was just watching them. They definitely didn’t seem the water was warm though!

Echo village

Next day we went on a little hike to the Ekkodalen (Echo valley). We hiked couple of kms in the forest and the mushroom picking girl inside of me was very thrilled of seeing a lot of them alongside the path (fun fact: I don’t like mushrooms, I just love picking them).

The rest of the day we spent playing games and laying in our tent, as it was raining, unfortunately.

Last day of our trip we went to play minigolf at the biggest minigolf park in Northern Europe. It was amazing, all of the holes represented some Bornholm’s attraction. It was also crazy stuffed there though.

Ďalší deň sme si spravili menšiu túru do Ekkodalen, čiže nejakého echo údolia. Fun fact: Huby nejem, iba zbieram.

Posledný deň nášho výletu sme šli hrať minigolf do naväčšieho minigolf parku v severnej Európe. Každá z jamiek predstavovala nejakú atrakciu Bornholmu a bolo to super!

Bornholm, Rødby

After boarding the ferry on the way back, we got this beautiful view of the city of Rønne, which is the biggest city on Bornholm. Isn’t it beautiful?

Have you ever been to Bornholm? Or would you like to see it? I definitely recommend and I will definitely go back!

One day in Malmö, Sweden

One day in Malmö, Sweden

Hey there! The weather in Denmark has been pretty.. oh well, Danish.. and the only thing I want to do is snuggle under my blanket! And what goes well with that? Writing! So today I will tell you a bit about our trip, when we spent one day in Malmö!

“Always the bridesmaid, never the bride” says Lonely Planet about this city, always playing second fiddle to Copenhagen.

Malmö is only about 30km away from central Copenhagen, so in case you have some spare time and want to cross Sweden out of your visited countries, it is a perfect one day trip! It is accessible by train, bus and car, crossing the beautiful Øresund bridge. We took the 999 bus and the whole ride took about an hour, 30 minutes from the Copenhagen airport.

Gotta admit, the weather could have been better, as it was pretty cold and it also rained a little bit. But despite that, we had a really lovely day and I really liked the city! It is pretty similar to Copenhagen, but definitely less crowded. Let me tell you a bit more about it!

We got dropped off at the Gustav Adolfs Torg, beautiful square full of tulips and bikes! From here, we walked through to the Kungsparken (King’s park), which is the oldest park in Malmö. This time of the year is probably the best time to visit, as it was filled with blooming tulips and other flowers!

Ahojte!

Počasie v Dánsku je momentálne dosť.. no, dánske, takže si ležím pod dekou a nevychádzam z domu. A čo sa k tomuto hodí? No predsa nový článok!

Takže ak máte v Kodani nejaký voľný čas a chcete si odškrtnúť návštevu Švédska, ideál! My sme šli autobusom č. 999 a cesta trvala asi hodinu celkovo, 30 minút z Kodaňského letiska.

A tiež som tu videla môj prvý veterný mlyn (asi).

Here I have also seen the first windmill in my life (at least I think so!) and it was so pretty!

From the Kungsparken we continued… well, we didn’t really know where. I just wanted to get to the sea, which I knew should offer nice view of the bridge and Copenhagen on the other side. We just followed the Turning Torso and found ourselves in the middle of some industrial area, not so nice. But after some time we managed to find the Ribersborgsstranden, which was a nice beach-like area offering very nice views! And it was filled with dogwalkers, we got approached by this cute little guy!

Z Kungsparken sme pokračovali… no, vlastne sme si ani neboli istí kam.

You can’t miss the Turning Torso from here, which is the first twisted skyscraper in the world!

From here we decided to go back to the centre and get some lunch. Now we crossed the Slottsparken (Castle’s park), which was filled with ducks, geese and other cute animals!

While strolling the city we found this, anyone knows what this means?!

We got pretty tired, so we just decided to spend last minutes before the bus was leaving, sitting at the bench in the middle of the Gustav Adolfs Torg. It was filled with people enjoying the tiny bit of sun and beautiful tulips everywhere around!

Posledné minúty pred odchodom autobusu sme strávili na lavičke v strede Gustav Adolfs Torg a bolo tam nádherne! Veď posúďte sami.

Nature romance

My boyfriend thought it was a bit boring city, but for me it was perfect! A lot of nature mixed with great architecture, not so many tourists, perfect for runaway from the hustle and bustle of Copenhagen!

What about you? Have you been to Malmö? And did you like it?

A čo Vy? Už ste boli v Malmö? A páčilo sa?

10 things to see and do in San Francisco!

10 things to see and do in San Francisco!

Hey there!

I can’t even believe that it’s soon gonna be two years since I have lived in California! If you want to know a little bit more about it, and you haven’t read the last post, check it here! I can honestly say, if I had to mention one city (not place!) which I loved the most, it would be SAN FRANCISCO. This city is completely different than the rest of California. At least I think so. You can still feel the spirit of hippies or the beat generation. And while the image of California is usually sun, warm weather and beaches, San Francisco is hilly, windy and.. Just different. But beautiful.

Let me show you 10 places and things you (in my opinion) can’t miss while you are in the city.

Ahojte!

Ak o tom chcete vedieť trochu viac a nečítali ste minulý príspevok, kuk sem! V uliciach stále cítite pozostatky bítnikov a hippies.

10 THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN SAN FRANCISCO

Golden Gate bridge at sunrise
Golden Gate bridge at sunrise

1. GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE (at sunrise).

Of course, what else? This might be the most iconic bridge in the whole world and, let me tell you, it definitely is the most beautiful one I have ever seen. We managed to get there before sunrise (and it was cold and windy as hell!), and it offered amazing view on the still sleeping, but slowly awakening San Francisco. The view should be even better from the other side, which I did not get the chance to see, unfortunately. Oh well, at least I have the reason to go back!

2. PIER 39

Another iconic and must see spot. The place, where dozens of sea lions play and tan on the Californian sun. It also offers great views of USS Pampanito (the submarine), SS Jeremiah O’Brian (the huge ship on the picture) or Golden Gate. Which is usually in the mist, as here. Haha.

3. Walk in the FISHERMAN’S WHARF

Pier 39 can be found here. As well as the remains of the WWII. As well as many many more. Fisherman’s Wharf is a popular place to just walk between the piers, admire the historical cable cars or grab food at many of the seafood or other places. Speaking of food, make sure to visit the…

Fisherman’s Wharf je domovom Pier 39. Tiež tu nájdete mnoho pozostatkov druhej svetovej vojny. A je veľmi populárnym miestom na prechádzky pomedzi móla, môžete pozorovať historické električky alebo si dať rôzny seafood a iné jedlo. Keď už hovoríme o jedle, určite nevynechajte…

4. BOUDIN’S

Boudin’s or Boudin Bakery is the bakery located in Fisherman’s Wharf famous for its sourdough bread. You can buy different kinds of bread, pastry and you can get one of their famous soups! In the bread! And coming from Eastern Europe, this was something I really did appreciate! Yummy!

V chlebe.

5. Ride the historical Cable Car

Probably the most famous ones are Powell-Hyde and the Powell-Mason lines. The ticket costs 7$ and it will take you from the Fisherman’s Wharf to Union Square or vice versa. You can also get on at any of the stops on the way! It’s definitely a nice way to rest your feet after walking in the wharf.

6. LOMBARD STREET

Lombard Street from above
Lombard Street from above

I am pretty sure you have already heard about this street. It is known to be the most crooked street in the world. It is also pretty steep for pedestrians, walking down and up on both sides.

7. Take a break at UNION SQUARE

Surrounded by hundreds of shops, Union square is a popular place to sit down and chill. And watch all the people shopping, eating or just walking by. In 2009, on each of the 4 corners, these beautiful hearts were installed. All of them are different, this one says “hello” in many languages!

8. See the PAINTED LADIES

Climb Alamo Hill (okay, maybe just take a bus, it’s pretty steep) and visit Alamo Square Park. It not only offers amazing views of the city, it is also the home of Painted Ladies, these lovely colorful houses. Painted Ladies is a term for Victorian or Edwardian houses painted in at least three colors and probably the most famous example is right here!

9. Take a trip to MUIR WOODS

Muir Woods National Monument is just 12 miles from San Francisco and it’s a great half-day trip. You will get to see these giant redwoods and you can take many trails, depending on your physical condition. It’s a quiet place, just you and nature. And many tourists.

Uvidíte tieto obrovské stromy a môžete si vybrať z rôznych túr, podľa Vašej fyzickej kondície. Je to veľmi pokojné miestečko v srdci prírody 🙂

10. Take a ferry back to San Francisco

On the way back from Muir Woods, you can take the bus to Sausalito and from there, choose the ferry. It will offer unique views of Golden Gate Bridge and the downtown. And if you are considering to take some kind of cruise to see Golden Gate, just take this ferry, it’s much cheaper. Tickets are around 12$.

Downtown San Francisco

Make sure to leave a comment if you have any other suggestions on what to see in San Fran! I have unfortunately not been able to see Alcatraz or other places, so I would be very happy for some inspiration.

I hope you are having a great day, see you soon!
