August in High Tatras

Postcard

Hello lovely people!

Can I even use the excuse of being busy anymore? Oh well, I promise I will get better at this! And I will start right where I stopped the last time – in August.

In the lovely month of August we spent couple of days in Slovakia. The main purpose of visit was the 50th birthday of my aunt, where we had a lot of fun! Understand – a lot of wine and dance. It was incredibly hot those days (35 degrees Celsius), so we also spent some quality time in my parent’s hot tub!

One of the days I planned a little trip to the Tatra mountains – a cable car ride on the top of the second highest peak – Lomnický štít. You can read a little bit about my love for our mountains here. I honestly think our mountains are amazing, in summer or winter, even though maybe the services are a little overpriced. This applies to the cable car as well. But as it is something I have never done before and it’s recommended to do once in your lifetime – it was an easy decision!

For someone not being afraid of heights at all (I have been sitting and jumping at the edge of Grand Canyon), I have to admit this ride was a little stressful. Well, you have nothing under, just sharp rocks! You can see the red cable car going up at one of the pictures, but here it doesn’t look as scary as it actually was!

Ahojte!

Rozumej – veľa vína a tanca.

One thing to keep in mind, even though you can’t really do anything about it, is definitely the weather. Chances are that you pay a lot of money, get up there and.. See nothing. We were lucky here, but gosh, how stressed I was about this!

The view is amazing. If the visibility is good, you can see pretty far! You can admire the mountain lakes and dangerous rocks and peaks while the clouds are slowly moving in between. The picture on the viewing platform is apparently a must – as everyone was doing it. Well, again, the view!

cloudy view

My sme ale mali šťastie.

Výhľad zhora je skvelý. Pokiaľ je dobrá viditeľnosť, je vidieť dosť ďaleko. Takisto môžete obdivovať rôzne plesá, štíty a mračná, ktoré sa pomaly presúvajú okolo Vás. Fotka na vyhliadkovej plošine je zjavne povinnosťou, keďže to každý robil.

up in the clouds

Everyone is allowed to spend 50 minutes up there. So after tons of pictures, maybe some coffee in the restaurant and quite a lot of breathtaking views, you are heading back down. Well, down still doesn’t mean completely down, as the stop at Skalnaté Pleso – big mountain lake – is kinda compulsory as well.

peaks

At this point you can walk around the lake, visit the observatory, chill, eat in the restaurant or go hiking. In the winter, of course, you go on skis from here. And when you get completely down, to the village of Tatranská Lomnica, you should definitely also walk around. It has many small souvenir or sports shops, restaurant and cafés, luxurious hotels and all that with an amazing mountain air and great views of the peaks!

Of course this is not the only place in High Tatras! Might be one of the most touristy ones, but for me some of the others are more special. Maybe next time…

tranquility

Have any of you visited High Tatras? I highly recommend – of course! If you have any questions or comments, please hit me up, I would be more than happy to help 🙂

Have a lovely day,

see you next time!
